This is a film I made last year, it’s lived on my instagram for a few months and deserves a place here on Substack. I cant watch this film without crying, both for sadness but also for how fucking delicious that water looks as I am stuck indoors for the foreseeable writing my dissertation. Anyway - swings and roundabouts - enjoy.

by the grace of god, and a letter that arrived 15 years late, we found ourselves in a house by the sea in southern sicily…

we took alex to places he’d painted
and he’d remember them,

he’d rattle off in italian with the locals,
and he’d almost recall some true stories

but so soon after he’d forget where we were,
let alone where we’d taken him

we skipped around the square in siracusa
and dined in palazzos from the past

theo, cicely and mary all painted,
and i tried my best,

even alex painted at one point,
it makes me cry at just the thought

as with all of this, it was bittersweet,
but a very special trip
